Stirring the magical pot of imagination.

I’ve finished reading Dragon King and I’m now well over halfway through reading Olgrun. More importantly though, I’m making notes, and in doing so I’m stirring the pot of my own imagination. Finding the nuances, the hidden details, are all important; for example, how old is a character at a particular point in the novel, how does he or she relate to previous events, or what’s to come? How do significant clues bind the chronicles and how well does the storyline weave its path through the many years in which the chronicles unfold? All of this has an impact upon what comes next, continuity is important and yet the opportunity for my imagination to spread its wings must never be overlooked.

So yes, notes are important. There’s plenty of tiny detail that I’m so pleased I refreshed in my own mind. In doing this work I find new opportunities for the third novel are opening up. Fresh ideas, ways to tie things together, it’s all been very worthwhile.

I expect to finish reading Olgrun soon and then there’s the 30,000 words or so of Belus to read before I continue to write what started as perhaps my best work so far. I’m glad I’ve taken the decision to continue but I’m not going to pressure myself with targets, other than to say, I’ll sit to write at least twice per week and see how things progress…

That’s it for now, I hope you’re all keeping in good health and fine spirits. I’ll chat to you again soon…
