Updating the updates…
I think it’s time for another quick update. I did say I was going to do this weekly, but it’s become readily apparent that once or twice a month would be far more appropriate. My word targets are not going to be consistent, neither are how many times I sit to write each week. With all this in mind I don’t wish to commit to unnecessary work, adding to the blog, when in fact I may have very little to report. Life has changed since I wrote the other two books. I get out more and spend more time ‘doing stuff’. Now that covid is behind us it’s good to travel when I can and so writing has to be slotted in on more of an opportune basis.
However, today I am happy to report that I have passed a small, and yet significant milestone. I can now say that I have passed the halfway mark! The book needs to be around 75,000 words or more in length (thereby similar to my other two novels) and even when I take later editing into account (that usually entails deleting two or three thousand words) I am still over the hump, so to speak.😁
Belus is interesting as it’s set in a time many generations before the appearance of Olgrun, Bayless, Tregan and all the other characters of the first two novels. This is challenging, to explain the timelines, and yet it’s rewarding, to be free to write such a significant story, filled with new people. The foundation of the tale is now laid. Next will come the subplots that mould and bind, The Chronicles of Niru, together...
That’s it for now, work continues on a more erratic basis. I know I have around 40,000 more words left to write before I’m done. Those next words will of course be full of magic and adventure. I’m really pleased with what I’ve written so far. My style of writing seems to have changed with each book, which I believe is paying dividends. Time will tell…
That’s it for now,
Pete.🧙♂️
