The Belus Manuscript!

I’ve now done a first edit of my third novel and as you can see I’ve decided to print a manuscript. It’s a hefty old tome of well over 300 pages, but the font is large for easy reading and correction markings. As I write this, Tracey has already sat down and begun to read the book with a highlighter at the ready (gulp).

We’ve recently been away to southern England and also took a week to visit Tenby, amongst other places, in Wales. This little holiday delayed my editing but work still goes on. Whenever I decide to write or edit, I usually find that after a couple of hours my concentration levels will begin to wane. This process is a slow steady march to the end, working for many hours at a time will, I feel, just lead to more mistakes being made.

Rather than go straight back to a second read/edit of Belus I’ve now decided to focus on the first two novels and work on those, giving them both one more edit/revision. By the time I get back to the third book I should be reading it relatively ‘cold’ and so any mistakes may be easier to spot (that’s the theory at least).

Once I get all the editing of all three novels completed, I’ll try approaching literary agents and see if my work gets a positive response. Having written these three (over a period of 10 years I might add) I think they’re really absorbing fantasy tales. In the end, The Chronicles of Niru, are about love, magic and compassion, balanced against destruction, fear and evil. These themes are blended in a magical world where good and evil compete amongst dragons, warlocks, witches and elves (not to mention spirits of the past). The world of Niru is a place where your imagination will be filled to the brim with wondrous creatures and interesting characters. I really love these stories, and I hope you will too.

For now the first two volumes have been removed from Amazon. Nothing sold on the platform and that’s why I want them to be perfect before I approach any literary agents. If I can get this trilogy into the high street book shops, that would be ideal. As for the series, there are probably two more books to write before I have fully wrapped things up. However, I’m not necessarily going to dive into that work immediately, I’d really like the trilogy to gain traction somewhere first. It might never happen; we’ll see.

That’s it for now.
