Enjoying the editing…

This is an odd thing to confess, but I’ll do it anyway. I’m enjoying the editing of Belus. There, I said it. I guess it’s unusual because I’m getting real pleasure from reading the book as I edit each page. Yes, there are lot’s of silly things to correct, but the story and character dialogue are very engaging (not very modest, but it’s the truth).

I’m almost halfway through now. I’m making my corrections and also adding the changes that Tracey made on her copy of the printed manuscript. It’s quite amusing what I’ve missed, and what Tracey also missed as she edited her version of the story. The brain plays tricks on the mind. We skip through sentences that have a missing word and are occasionally blind to other mistakes that are so easily discovered later. The major lesson is that the editing is perhaps the hardest part of writing a novel. It can take a long time with many attempts before it’s ready for reading.

It won’t be long before I finish. I will then be reading all three books again, just to make sure. After that I’ll send my work to some literary agents and see if I can get a publisher onboard. I’ve also decided that there should be at least two more novels to follow. One step at a time though. This is a very long process. I can’t get past the fact that the stories have to be told, and I feel compelled to do so.

That’s it for now.

Happy Christmas.
