The Shroud of Turin.

Does the Shroud of Turin provide direct evidence for the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth? Are the scorch-like marks upon the cloth due to an incredibly powerful release of energy that lasted just a tiny fragment of a second? Carbon dating of minuscule fragments of the Shroud have proven to be unreliable, as ‘invisible’ repairs, and patch repairs, were carried out in the distant past. Reports that the cloth comes from 1260 to 1390 AD are therefore controversial, as re-weaving of foreign fibres is known to have taken place. Any contamination through handling, transportation, storage, and location may have anlso affected the results.

The short précis below has come from ChatGPT. It offers a brief history of the Shroud, and how it came to be located in Turin, Italy. I believe the details to be correct. For all the facts and figures then please go to the official website. https://www.shroud.com/ ….

…The earliest clearly documented appearance of the shroud dates to around 1355 in Lirey, a small town in France, where it was displayed by the knight Geoffroi de Charny. After his death, it remained within his family until his descendant, Marguerite de Charny, transferred it to the House of Savoy in 1453. Under Savoy ownership, the shroud was moved across Europe before being housed in Chambéry, where it survived a chapel fire in 1532 that left visible scorch marks. In 1578, it was transferred to Turin in Italy, where it has remained ever since, now kept in the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist.

Throughout its history, the shroud has been cared for by a combination of noble custodians and the Catholic Church. In 1983, Umberto II of Italy, the last King of Italy and a member of the House of Savoy, bequeathed it to the Pope and his successors, placing it under the official guardianship of the Holy See.
Whether viewed as a sacred relic or a historical mystery, the journey of the Shroud of Turin—from medieval France to its present home in Turin—forms an essential part of its enduring story…

I have linked to a very interesting YouTube video, that attempts to address the authenticity of the shroud being the actual burial cloth of Jesus, and therefore, depicting the lasting effects upon the fabric, from his resurrection. If this is genuine, and I believe it may be, then we may be looking at the most important relic in the history of mankind. We live in a supernatural world; none of us should kid ourselves otherwise. The grip of reality, the material world, maybe utterly convincing to most people (as it should be), but beyond the veil lies the truth. The Shroud of Turin could be evidence of that truth.

This brings a famous quote to mind, one that seems appropriate to finish on.

‘There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy…’

Below is a TED Talk, given by Barrie Shwortz, the photographer of the Shroud, and part of the Shroud of Turin Research Project (STURP), a team of over thirty American scientists, who carried out a round-the-clock, 5 day long investigation, in October 1978. A total of 122 hours of non-destructive tests were carried out to determine how the image was formed. The team concluded that the image had not been created by an artist, and that an unknown process had taken place. The blood, that was found on the Shroud, was of type AB. The team was eventually dissolved in 1993.

Barrie Shwortz passed-on, in June 2024. I highly recommend that you watch the video below and listen to what this man had to say…
